Technology Reflection 1

I enjoyed reading the various articles.  The readings helped me better understand the challenges and advances of today's technology. There are many technological advances that range from personal to business like environments. While reading one of the articles, I felt uncomfortable. I am not sure how I feel about animal parts in humans. Overall the readings were intriguing.

In the article "25 inventions of 2016", I enjoyed the advances in solar panel energy.  The solar panels are incorporated into the building of the house.  I am a strong believer of saving the environment from human activity or at least limiting it. In this same article is speaks of Goodyear wanting to produce wheels that are spherical in shape.  I think this is a cool and very innovative idea.  I would love to see this one day because that leads to hover cars. Science fiction wouldn't be so fiction anymore. I found interest in reading about the artificial pancreas.  More and more of Americans suffer from diabetes.   Majority of the time the pancreas continues to fail.  An artificial one that reads your sugar levels for you every five minutes would help those in need. Yet, there are some downfalls to an artificial pancreas, like technology failure or the body pH balance changes. One last idea I enjoyed from this articles was the invention of barbie dolls that resemble realistic women of today. These dolls could help young ladies suffering from self-esteem issues or acceptance from peers cope with independence and self love.

In the article "I Future: Best Inventions of 2015", it discusses transparent trucks.  I believe this to be a great idea especially for those who travel often and far.  I travel 10 and half hours from here to Houston and there are plenty of 18 wheeler trucks on the road. I feel much safer if the truck driver could see me at all times on the road. Further in the article, I read about he baby monitor.  This would be an invention that would change the health system forever.   I fully support the technology to check the child's temperature and if the child is becoming sick. This is a helpful tool especially for first time mothers. My stepmother has recently discovered that she is allergic to gluten.  It's funny because she loves bread.  The invention of gluten free and healthier pasta  is amazing. I love Italian food and less carbs while enjoying my favorite food is a dream come true. I also like the invention of an ocean vacuum.  I want to save the environment one day and it seems that technology is already underway. The ocean shouldn't have trash in it in the first place but that's a different story.

Robots!  I am not to sure how I feel about robots with emotions and human-like thinking.  I believe robots should be invented as an assistance to humans.  In the article "Teaching Robots Right from Wrong", it establishes that the army has used robots to go into battle with machine guns yet they are still controlled by humans for commandment.  This inventions saves human lives thus decreases the death rate. Further into the reading it focuses on teaching robots scenarios and problem solving skills that humans use to encode the robots with. The number one emotion that inventors want the robots to have is guilt.  Guilt in humans is the subconscious telling us we do something that was not right.  If they could instill this in robots, I think I could accept the invention of human-like robots.

As for the Einstein's quote, I completely agree. The day technology causes human interaction to decrease, will be the day people no longer know how to survive without technology. As for becoming a teacher or being a teacher now, we must stay up-to-date with the new founding technology. We have to know what today's generation knows.

  1. I couldn't imagine living in a world were robots have emotions like humans. It personally scares me to think of a machine acting just like us. Robots are an amazing technological advancement for sure though.
I agree with you, teachers definitely need to be up-to-date with the newest technology. Technology is something we are so dependent on in our era. Now a days kids learn through technology and it just keeps them more engaged in learning when it has some form of technology.

  2. What is life without gluten??? I can relate to your stepmom, Tierra. My doctor believes I might be allergic to gluten as well, which is not so great because I love bread as well! So better tasting gluten-free pasta and other foods would be amazing and of course healthy. It would definitely be a win-win situation.
Now the robots, wow that sure is something else. I agree that having robots in battle and situations like that would definitely save lives, but like you said it is still being managed by humans. The way I see it is just a lot of adults playing a video game and controlling the robots' every move. That's a little scary. What will happen if the robot loses connection and can longer do exactly what it is being told to do?

  3. Love reading your reflection, Tierra!! The concept of robot echoes with Apple's concept of deskilling and depowering for teachers have been happening since technology has introduced to the classroom--we will talk about the TPACK framework to illustrate how technology is supposed to supplement teaching instead of deskilling teachers!
The scenes from "WALL-E" pops out when I read the comfy chair article. Technology has a great impact on our life: it facilitates communication and learning at some degree; however, it also distances human interactions. How technology can be applied efficiently and properly in educational settings will be an angle that teachers need to take into account--another concept from TPACK!!
Yes, I totally agree with environmental friendly devices--we only have one earth! Baby monitor is pretty cool since it can prevent "stealing" and danger! And Gluten free products--we have to thanks for technology!
